Frequently asked questions about Mesh, your AI Cobuilder for building Rowmesh apps
Find answers to common questions about Mesh, Rowmesh's AI Cobuilder.
General Questions
Does using Mesh cost anything?
Mesh is available on all Rowmesh plans: Free, Build, and Enterprise. Mesh's AI work runs on credits, and every plan includes a monthly credit allowance, with more on higher plans. See Credits & Usage for the full breakdown.
What plans include access to Mesh?
Mesh is available on:
Free plan
Build plan
Enterprise plan
Mesh is not available on some legacy plans. If you're on a legacy plan and want access, consider upgrading to a current plan.
What usage limits are there on the Free plan?
Mesh's usage runs on credits. The Free plan includes a monthly credit allowance plus a small daily allowance; higher plans include more. See Credits & Usage for the details.
Does building a Canvas use credits?
Mesh's AI-powered work — especially building and editing a Canvas — is measured in credits. Simple edits cost a fraction of a credit; generating a whole page costs more. Failed generations are never charged, and asking Mesh to fix a page that didn't render is free. Every plan includes a monthly credit allowance, and paid plans roll unused credits over for a month. See Credits & Usage for the full breakdown.
How do I access Mesh?
Mesh is accessible directly in your Rowmesh app builder:
Open your app in Build Mode
Look for the Mesh tab in the top-left of your app studio
Click to open the Mesh interface
For more details, see Getting Started with Mesh.
Using Mesh
What can Mesh help me with?
Mesh can help with:
Setting up relationships between tables
Generating sample data
Building views and pages
Creating workflows and automations
Configuring permissions
Customizing forms
Publishing your app
Explaining Rowmesh features
For a complete list, see What Mesh Can Do.
Do I need to use special commands or syntax?
No! Just talk to Mesh naturally. Use plain language to describe what you want to accomplish. For example: "Create a Customers table with name, email, and phone number" or "Help me set up a workflow that sends emails."
Does Mesh understand context from earlier in the conversation?
Yes! Mesh maintains context throughout your conversation. She remembers what tables you have, what you've asked her to do, and can reference previous parts of your conversation. This means you can have natural, flowing conversations without repeating information.
Does Mesh remember things between conversations?
Yes. As well as the context she keeps within a single chat, Mesh has a longer-term memory of your preferences and app conventions — so you don't have to repeat them each time you start a new conversation. You can review, edit, and delete everything she remembers in Mesh's settings. See Mesh's Memory.
Can I attach files or use voice instead of typing?
Yes. You can attach images, screenshots, documents, and data files (such as a CSV or a receipt) to a request, and Mesh can build from them or create records from them. You can also dictate your request with voice input. See Getting Started with Mesh.
Can I keep separate conversations with Mesh?
Yes. Your work is organised into conversations, so you can keep separate threads for separate tasks, switch between them, and delete ones you no longer need. You can also edit and resend an earlier message to try a request a different way.
Can I undo changes that Mesh makes?
Yes. Changes Mesh makes are immediate and visible in your app builder. You can use Rowmesh's undo button or manually revert any changes just like you would with manual edits. Always review Mesh's changes before publishing your app.
Will Mesh make changes without asking me first?
Mesh asks for your approval before actions that change or remove things, so nothing significant happens without your say-so. For a larger task she'll also show a short plan before she starts, and if a request could go a few ways she'll ask a quick multiple-choice question rather than guessing. Quick, low-risk changes are made directly. You can always ask her to "explain what you're going to do" first, and you can adjust exactly which actions she checks with you in Controlling what needs your approval.
Can I control which actions Mesh asks me to approve?
Yes. Mesh's Tool permissions settings let you set each kind of action — creating records, editing pages, changing workflows, and so on — to Always ask or Always allow, so you can give Mesh a free hand for routine work while keeping a check on the rest. You can also make a choice stick straight from an approval card as you chat — "allow for this chat", "allow this table only", or "always allow". See Controlling what needs your approval for the details.
How specific should I be in my requests?
The more specific, the better! Instead of "add a table," try "create a Projects table with fields for project name, start date, end date, status, and assigned team member." Specific requests get better results on the first try.
See Tips and Best Practices for more guidance.
Technical Questions
Can Mesh connect external data sources like Airtable or PostgreSQL?
Not currently. Connecting to external data sources (Airtable, Google Sheets, PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.) must be done manually through the Rowmesh interface. Once connected, Mesh can help you work with that data.
Can Mesh build custom pages that go beyond standard layouts?
Yes. When a standard layout can't express what you want, Mesh can build you a fully custom page called a Canvas. Mesh writes and maintains the code behind it, so you get a bespoke result without any code to manage yourself. You never see files, terminals, or build tooling — you describe the page, watch it build, and refine it by chatting.
For your app's manual custom code blocks (custom CSS/JavaScript you inject yourself), Mesh doesn't write into those — but for custom layouts, a Canvas is almost always the better route.
What is a Canvas?
A Canvas is a custom page Mesh builds for you when standard views and dashboards aren't flexible enough — bespoke dashboards, portal home pages, and interactive layouts. A Canvas is built on your existing data, charts, and your app's theme, navigation, and permissions, so it feels like a natural part of your app. (Some advanced components — Kanban, timelines, and the data grid — aren't available in a Canvas yet.)
See the Canvas guides to learn more.
Can I add a Canvas to a page I already have?
Yes. As well as building a full Canvas page, Mesh can add a Canvas component — a custom, dynamic section — to an existing record page or blank page. You add one by asking Mesh (there's no component to drag in), and on a record page it automatically knows the current record, so it's great for record-specific tools and summaries.
Can Mesh set up Zapier or Make integrations?
Not directly. Mesh can't configure external integrations like Zapier, Make, or other third-party services. You'll need to set these up manually. However, Mesh can help you set up webhooks in workflows that connect to these services.
Does Mesh work with all field types?
Yes! Mesh understands all Rowmesh field types including text, numbers, dates, select fields, linked records, lookups, rollups, formulas, files, and more. Just describe what you need and she'll set it up correctly.
Can Mesh help with data migrations?
Mesh can help structure tables to receive migrated data and can generate sample data for testing. However, for large-scale data imports from external sources, you'll want to use Rowmesh's import features or connect your external database directly.
Troubleshooting
Mesh didn't understand my request. What should I do?
Try these approaches:
Rephrase more simply - Break down complex requests into smaller steps
Add more detail - Provide specific examples or field names
Ask Mesh for clarification - "What information do you need from me?"
Check your terminology - Use Rowmesh terms like "table" instead of "database"
Mesh created something different from what I wanted. How do I fix it?
Just tell Mesh what needs to change! For example: "The Status field should have different options" or "Change the relationship to many-to-many instead of one-to-many." Mesh can iterate and refine based on your feedback.
I don't see the Mesh tab in my app. Why?
Possible reasons:
You're on a legacy plan that doesn't include Mesh (check your plan)
You're not in Build Mode (make sure you're editing, not viewing your app)
There may be a temporary issue (try refreshing your browser)
If none of these solve it, contact Rowmesh support.
I've run out of credits. What now?
Mesh's usage runs on credits. If you've used your allowance:
Your allowance resets on your renewal date (Free plans also get a small daily allowance that refreshes each day)
Prioritize Mesh for the tasks that save the most time
Consider upgrading for a larger allowance
Handle simple tasks manually
See Credits & Usage for how allowances and resets work.
Can I report issues or bugs with Mesh?
Yes! Feedback is always valuable, and you can even ask Mesh to report a bug to the Rowmesh team for you. You can also report issues through:
The in-app support chat
The Rowmesh Community forum
Your account's support channel
Include details about what you asked Mesh to do and what happened.
Best Practices
Should I use Mesh or build manually?
Use both! Mesh is great for:
Setting up structure quickly (tables, fields, relationships)
Generating sample data
Building workflows
Learning features
Build manually when you want:
Precise visual control
Fine-tuned styling
Exact layout positioning
The best approach is often: Mesh for structure, manual for polish.
How can I learn Rowmesh features with Mesh's help?
Ask Mesh to explain as she works! Try requests like:
"Explain rollup fields and show me an example"
"Walk me through creating a workflow step by step"
"What are the different permission types and how do they work?"
Mesh is both a builder and a teacher.
Should I review everything Mesh creates?
Yes! Always review Mesh's work, especially:
Before publishing to live users
When setting up permissions and security
When building workflows that send emails or modify data
When working with real customer data
Think of Mesh as a very helpful assistant, but you're still the boss.
Can I use Mesh for production apps with real users?
Yes! Mesh can help build production apps. However:
Always test thoroughly before going live
Review all permissions and security settings
Verify workflows work correctly
Clean up any sample/test data
Test with real-world scenarios
Mesh builds production-ready features, but testing is still essential.
Data & Privacy
Is my conversation with Mesh private?
Conversations with Mesh are associated with your Rowmesh account and app. Rowmesh takes data privacy seriously. For specific details about data handling, see Rowmesh's privacy policy or contact support.
Does Mesh store my data?
Mesh needs to access your app's structure and data to help you build. Conversation history may be stored to improve Mesh's performance. For specific data retention policies, refer to Rowmesh's privacy policy.
Future & Feedback
Is Mesh getting new features?
